Furniture since always
A good chair is all about integrity. Every part plays an essential role in its function. Everything matters, and when it’s all joined up, you get something as useful as they are economically and sustainably motivated. Furniture that is subdued by its surroundings and part of a whole.
At Gärsnäs, this joined-up thinking extends beyond the chair’s design and builds to everything and everyone that comes before and after. From the well-being of a factory worker to the comfort of a customer, from materiality to stackability, use to reuse – it’s all connected and considered.
We focus on deep analysis of wood making, refining the minimal and often most complex technical challenges, intricate joinery, crafted with the utmost perfected mix of carpentry and industrial manufacturing, always committed to function, quality and sustainability.
For us, integrity means making every decision as a company from a place of humanity. That’s why we honour those who came before us, we respect those who work alongside us, we understand those we build for, and we consider those who will inherit the world.
Designed by time and made with love, the Gärsnäs chair is the one you feel was always there, meeting your needs wherever and whenever you are.

Our Chairs
Our chairs are designed with a balance of functionality and humanity – it’s in the depth of the seat, the inclusion of a gently inclined backrest, and an elegant half-circle of wood, with just enough room to rest an elbow. While a Gärsnäs chair is complex and technical, crafted with the perfect mix of carpentry and industrial manufacturing, it is also a warm, friendly, human, inviting, and comfortable seat. Designed by time and made with love, the Gärsnäs chair is the one you feel was always there, meeting your needs wherever and whenever you are.
Our Family
Gärsnäs is a three-generation, family-owned business established in 1893. In the Axelsson-Klockby family, we think of our collection as our children. We work with our grandfathers, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and partners daily. Trust, joy, passion, tacit knowledge and collective memory exist among us and anyone we work with. It has always been this way. The longevity of sharing a craft and passing it down from one generation to another embodies everything Gärsnäs stands for and aspires to: furniture that tells a story and ages with dignity. Furniture with a life. A life before us. A life after.

Our Factory
Gärsnäs is named for where we are and have always been, a family-owned factory nestled among the red beech trees in Skåne. Österlen is our home, a beautiful coastal region in the southeast of Sweden. The factory is at the heart of everything we do. It enables us to do what we believe in: make furniture that lasts and outlasts, applying technical woodworking craft, energy efficiency, and local material sourcing. Each chair we produce considers its makers. The modularity that makes our chairs easy to renovate is also what makes them so pleasurable to build in the first place.
Our Legacy
In 1893, carpenter Anders Andersson established the factory in Gärsnäs, Österlen, known for its furniture used in everyday life. In 1928, Anders’s son, Herbert, developed the factory sustainably. Due to the war, he utilised minimal energy and harvested local beech wood. In the 1960s, our grandfather, one of Sweden’s most renowned interior architects, Åke Axelsson, designed his first chair for Gärsnäs, continuing the philosophy of creating furniture that is both lifelong and sustainable. Two generations later, we utilise raw materials from nearby sources, remain efficient in our energy use, and craft furniture with integrity that lasts and outlasts, just like Anders did.
