Åke at Galleri Sebastian Schildt

Åke Axelsson: Nine decades of craftsmanship & interiors” Åke returns to Strandvägen after almost 75 years.

Galleri Sebastian Schildt presents a carefully selected collection of Åke’s furniture from all nine decades. On display is “the first cupboard” made at the age of 12 in his handicraft class at elementary school in Småland 1944. So too, Åke’s studies of historical furniture and newly made sustainable furniture from his workshop. It will be the premiere for The Black Lady, a lounge chair and ottoman in stained birch veneer and sheepskin; a signed, limited edition. Come and try it. Much, but not everything, is for sale.

This is not the first time that furniture made by Åke Axelsson has been on display on Strandvägen. Back in the 1940s, as a teenager at the carpentry school in Visby, he made basic furniture for Carl Malmsten’s boutique, which back then was situated on Strandvägen. Now, Åke returns, at the age of 91; somewhat more experienced, but still curious.

Vernissage: Saturday, 3 February.

In conversation: Monday, 5 February, 5 p.m. Sofia Silverstolpe, Åke Axelsson and Petter Eklund, author of a new book, Åke Axelsson: Room for Us All, about Åke’s career in interior design.

Exhibition runs until 24 February.
