Tell us about Dress.
I designed Dress for the new interior of the National Librarian’s office at the National Library of Sweden (KB). The chair was intended for an informal social area which would occupy just a part of the big room. The chair back serves to screen off different zones in the room. The Dress design took as its point of departure a ruched needlework sample which I had found interesting and had been keeping for a long time. When creating upholstered furniture you endeavour as a rule to eliminate creases and wrinkles in the fabric. This time I did the opposite and made use of them. Wrinkles and creases accentuate the shape of the chair and give it character.
