Read moreDuring one early month of spring, Gärsnäs will exhibit in Kasthall’s showroom at Ingmar Bergmans gata 4. Gärsnäs and Kasthall are two companies with the same philosophy and perspective on issues regarding quality, sustainability and long-termism. Designer Nina Jobs combines Gärsnäs and Kasthall with their various specialities – furniture and rugs – in a contemporary interior display.
Four questions for Nina Jobs
In creating this joint exhibition between two strong names, Kasthall and Gärsnäs, what has been your point of departure in the work?
I want to show the breadth of the collections at Kasthall and Gärsnäs and how they work in various situations. The focus is on this year’s new designs, as well as some of the classics. The interiors cover five different stations: dining area, living room, workroom, reading corner and a cavalcade of Gärsnäs chairs in one of the large windows.
What would you say was the greatest challenge?
Highlighting the uniqueness of both Kasthall and Gärsnäs while at the same time allowing them to achieve a common harmony. However, it’s apparent that the companies complement each other; these high-quality rugs and sets of furniture fit together like two jigsaw pieces.
What inspired the subdued range of colours?
The season: hesitant spring, the newly melted snow, it’s muddy in places and the buds have yet to appear. Just a few snowdrops have come forth.
In your own words, how would you describe the rooms?
Inside the entrance, to the left, in the light coming from the window, is the dining room. Here I’ve placed David Ericsson’s Madonna chair, upholstered in neutral and light Tärnsjö leather alongside one of my own tables from the Play series, above which hangs an Orbit pendant light. The dining suite is accompanied by David Ericsson’s new Hedwig easy chair. The range of colours is consistent and sober with elements of green plants, and a Loop coat hanger appears like a tender stalk. Accompanying the suite is one of Kasthall’s new designs this year, the woven bouclé rug, John Soft Grey, in a soft light-grey shade, design Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, along with the shaft-woven Häggå rug in a white-beige and the pattern Bloom.
On the other side of the entrance is Patrik Bengtsson and Pierre Sindre’s high POP sofa in vibrant grass-green colours. It symbolises those brave, small spring flowers that emerge from the cold, brown earth. The Tekla rug, design Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, hand-tufted in finest linen and wool, is just as eye-catching in its “apple sour” colour.
In the middle of Kasthall’s showroom, I have created a living room with the Kvilt sofa group, an easy chair from the Flake series and the Bond coffee table. Everything is in light tones, beige and putty white, apricot and cushions in motley colours. The living room is lit up by Tore Ahlsén’s classic floor light, Napoleon. The new rug Velvet Pearl, design Maja Johansson, in exclusive worsted wool yarn, soften up the environment.
Behind this is a workroom, with Färg & Blanche’s Emily armchair on a swivel base at the Österlen table, placed on one of Kasthall’s new pieces, the Trippel Green Beige woven rug in muted green.
Additionally, there’s a lovely little reading corner featuring the Emma easy chair designed by Färg & Blanche, Lisa Hilland’s My Granddaughter’s Cabinet and the oval stool, Jack, both upholstered in light leather, together with Thomas Sandell’s Elna table with a bracket, all of which stands on the round, hand-tufted Fogg rug in light beige.
Seen in the large shop window is the Loop coat hanger and a playful cavalcade of Gärsnäs chairs in typically untreated wood. These chairs are placed on Kasthall’s Arkad rug in a checkered pattern in tones ranging from iron-grey to whitish-grey.
