Designer Pierre Sindre on his design of the Gärsnäs stand 2016.

What characterises the 2016 stand?

Pierre Sindre:
I have chosen to create an inviting feeling of homely cosiness by deliberately softening the environment with fabrics, light fixtures and a thoughtful selection of materials. The stand is lit by a large number of classical Pia lamps designed by Tore Ahlsén in the 1940s. The lamps have two sizes and they are covered in white, embroidered cotton fabric. By hanging the different sizes in clusters, these white lamps give an impression of floating clouds.

In accordance with everything Gärsnäs represents, and I’m thinking above all of quality and sustainability, I have also chosen to profile and highlight the good craftsmanship and fine materials. Therefore the focus is on wood, both natural coloured and stained, leather upholstery and first-class wool fabrics. Genuineness and a feeling for craftsmanship unify the contents of the stand. In terms of design, I have worked with the circle and the sphere as a recurrent theme. The seat rings for Åke Axelsson’s Gästis chair create chainmail-like partition walls, also contributing to a cosy feeling. This year’s colours are coral-red and jade-green, as well as beige, taupe and the cognac hues of the leather upholstery.

Welcome to Gärsnäs, stand A11:20, Stockholm Furniture Fair 9 – 13 February.
