Care Instructions

By caring for and maintaining your furniture, you extend its lifespan and the enjoyment it gives far into the future. Look after your furniture through regular cleaning and upkeep. It may also be a good idea, now and then, to check whether any screws or fittings need to be tightened as time goes by.

All furniture is affected by sunlight, especially textiles. Shield furniture from direct sunlight and keep in mind that even material that tolerates light well can still fade. Always protect materials from dirt, liquids and hot objects. Remove spots and spills immediately. In addition, remember not to place furniture too near a direct heating source. Never put warm and/or damp objects directly on the surface of furniture. Condensation from glasses, bottles and similar items should not come into direct contact with the furniture’s surface.

WOOD
Wood is a living, relatively soft material that can change appearance naturally over time. Wipe regularly with a dry or well-wrung damp cloth. If necessary, use a mild, environmentally friendly cleaning agent. Always wipe dry with a dry cloth. Some marks and streaks, e.g. those on chair legs from the soles of shoes, can easily be removed with an eraser. Do not use abrasive sponges or cleaning agents with an abrasive effect.

Our customers select the surface treatment for the wood. Therefore, the type of care depends on their choice. If you are unsure what kind of surface treatment your furniture has, then ask us!

Oil
Wipe/dust as part of a daily cleaning routine. If soiled, use a mild, environmentally friendly cleaning agent (not containing ammonia and/or abrasives). Always wipe dry with a dry cloth. Never use solvents, acids, alkalies or other aggressive cleaning agents. Never use steel wool or steel-wool pads or other mechanical cleaning aids which can cause permanent damage.

Maintain oiled surfaces with new oiling. For oiled furniture used in outdoor environments, re-oil in the spring and autumn; indoor furniture as required. Before the new oiling, scrub with very fine abrasive paper of 220 240 grit designation. Scrub in the direction of the wood’s grain to avoid scratches. After scrubbing, dry the surface with a well-wrung damp cloth. New oiling should take place directly after scrubbing. The choice of oil depends on where the furniture is used: indoors or outdoors. Ask your local paint dealer for the correct product and application.

Hard wax oil
After a certain time, surfaces exposed to wear need to be cleaned and treated again. Keep clean with a dry cloth and vacuum regularly.

For wet cleaning, freshening up, spot removal and regular maintenance: please see the manufacturer’s specific instructions available for download on our website.

Soap-finished surfaces
Soap-finished surfaces require frequent soap treatments. Surfaces used on a daily basis need to be re-soaped every two weeks or sooner as required. Surfaces are kept clean with a well-wrung damp cloth and wiped dry.

Soap-finished surfaces that feel rough after a while may be scrubbed with abrasive paper of 220 240 grit designation. Scrub in the direction of the wood’s grain to avoid ugly scratches. After scrubbing, wipe the surface with a well-wrung damp cloth. A new soap treatment should take place directly after scrubbing.

Lacquered surfaces
Note that lacquered wooden surfaces are fully hardened about one month after leaving the workshop. Before the surface has hardened, it is sensitive to being scratched. Computers and other equipment with rubber footing may react with the lacquered surface during the hardening period and leave permanent marks; therefore equipment should be placed on felt pads during this time or the table surface protected in another way.

– Water-based lacquer
Remove any spots or spills from the surface as soon as possible. To clean, use dishwashing liquid or a mild pH-neutral cleaning agent and lukewarm water on a well-wrung damp cloth. Then wipe clean with fresh water and wipe dry.
To preserve the appearance and finish remember not to use:
– alkaline or aggressive cleaning agents such as Ajax, chlorine, etc.
– solvents such as white spirit or methylated spirits
– substances containing abrasive agents such as scouring powder
– abrasive aids or sponges such as steel wool or scouring pads

Remember not to let cleaning agents or other liquids stand and seep. For furniture and surfaces used in public environments, for example hospitals and nursing homes, remember not to use disinfectants containing a high concentration of alcohol or alkaline substances, for example 48% spirits. There are disinfectants that can be used satisfactorily, which do not appreciably affect the painted/lacquered surface: e.g. Dax Alco Free (CCS Healthcare) and Virkon (Viroderm).

Tape and other foreign objects such as Blu Tack and hand lotion can soften up the lacquer layer and cause flaking/colour loss.

– Polyurethane lacquer
Remove any spots or spills from the surface as soon as possible. To clean, use dishwashing liquid or a mild pH-neutral cleaning agent and lukewarm water on a well-wrung damp cloth. Then wipe clean with fresh water and wipe dry. Do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaning agents. Remember not to let cleaning agents or other liquids stand and seep.

For disinfection, after cleaning, use 48% spirits (ethanol). Wipe without pressure or rubbing. For further instructions in healthcare environments, contact us!

LINOLEUM
Remove all spots or spills as quickly as possible. Clean the surface with a soap-based cleaning product diluted in water, alternatively dishwashing liquid or a pH-neutral cleaning agent for slight soiling. Wipe the surface dry after cleaning. Do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaning agents.

For further information regarding linoleum, please see the manufacturer’s specific instructions available for download on our website.

LAMINATE
Remove all spots or spills as quickly as possible. Clean the surface with a soap-based cleaning product diluted in water, alternatively dishwashing liquid or a pH-neutral cleaning agent for slight soiling. Wipe the surface dry after cleaning. Do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaning agents.

For further information regarding laminate, please see the manufacturer’s specific instructions available for download on our website.

CAST IRON
Wipe cast iron with a dry cloth. If soiled, wipe the appropriate area with a well-wrung damp cloth. Cast iron may rust in very humid conditions. Be very careful when cleaning cast iron. Never use solvents, acids, alkalies or other aggressive cleaning agents. Never use steel wool or steel-wool pads or other mechanical cleaning aids which can cause permanent damage.

TEXTILES
Our furniture is supplied with fabric chosen by the customer. Contact the respective fabric supplier for the specific fabric’s washing instructions before cleaning your furniture!

Regular cleaning keeps fabrics in good condition longer and extends its lifespan. Vacuum furniture regularly. Spots and spills should be removed as soon as possible. Use an appropriate cleaning product or a mild aqueous solution if the fabric can be cleaned using water. Test the cleaning agent first on a less visible part of the fabric. Keep in mind that water stains may appear if you try to remove a spot with an aqueous solution. Always vacuum the fabric as much as possible around the spot before trying to remove it.

LEATHER
Taking care of your leather furniture will give it a unique patina and add to its beauty over the years. Leather is a natural material and appearances vary as no two skins are alike. Remember to keep leather away from direct sources of heat and shield from liquid splashes.

Clean leather daily by wiping with a dry cloth or alternatively use saddle soap to preserve the leather’s characteristics. Polish away the remains of the saddle soap with a soft cloth. Leather furniture requires regular care and treatment. We recommend cleaning products by Leather Master Scandinavia (www.leathermaster.se).

DOWN
Cushions filled with down need to be fluffed up now and then to help maintain their shape. Our down-filled cushions have sewn compartments that prevent the down from clumping at the bottom of the cushion.

STEEL
All our steel is surface treated: chrome plating (chrome III) or powder-coating finishing. For daily cleaning, wipe with a slightly damp cloth. When necessary, use an environmentally friendly cleaning agent. Always wipe dry with a dry cloth. Do not use scouring pads or abrasive cleaning agents. Pure alcohol can be used to remove stubborn dirt from a chromed surface. Never use solvents on lacquered or painted metal.
